Top 9 Best Pastry Boards in 2019 Reviews
1. Tableboard Co Reversible Cutting Board PBB1
Tableboard Co pastry board is excellent over the counter work station for any home or professional baker or chef. This large wooden pastry board has a hard maple surface that measures 22” x 28” x ¾” and will be great for kneading bread dough, rolling out pie dough, pizza or any other pastry dough. The Tableboard Co pastry board has ½” lip on both sides that will hold the board in place on the counter when working. As their product description and user reviews mention, one side can be used for work with dough to keep it smooth all the time and the other side could be used as a cutting board. It makes a great 2 in 1 kitchen equipment!
The board is made by Amish master craftsmen in the heartland of USA and weighs 14 pounds. You can clean this wooden pastry board very easily with a damp cloth. Manufacturers praise this hard maple pastry board as a handmade masterpiece that will last for generations, however, we still suggest to regularly oil your pastry board in order to extend its lifetime and keep it beautiful.
Overall, Tableboard Co Reversible Cutting Board PBB1 actually is a masterpiece in the realm of wooden pastry boards. You will be able to work with any kind of dough on a smooth maple surface, there will be enough space for everything. Sturdy lips on the sides make this a great bread kneading board when you need to use a lot of pressure without having the board slip around. All of these qualities allow us to confidently put Tableboard Co Reversible Cutting Board as the overall best wooden pastry board in our list.
However, the USA handmade quality comes with a price, this wooden pastry board goes for a bit more than other boards on our list but we believe it is well worth it.
A couple of reminders to our readers: this pastry board is quite big, don’t forget to measure your pantry before buying. Finally, it weighs 14 pounds and might be hard to constantly put in and out of the pantry for elderly or smaller people, unless you are ready for a workout!
- Excellent hard maple quality
- Very sturdy
- Extra large wooden pastry board
- Good looks
- Two sides for multiple uses (kneading dough and cutting)
- Has lips on sides to prevent slipping on the counter
- Easy to clean
- Quite heavy
- Large pastry board might not fit in every kitchen
2. Snow River 7V03345 18-Inch by 24-Inch by 3/4-Inch Pastry/Prep Board Backsplash
This beautiful Snow River pastry board is handcrafted by skilled woodworkers from Wisconsin from reclaimed North American hardwood that has been carefully selected for quality. Wood is hand sanded and finished with a food-grade oil to protect it against cracking and warping.
The hardwood large pastry board is 18” x 24” x ¾” size and weighs 10.4 pounds. For your convenience, it has a front lip to keep in place while working and a 2” backsplash to keep loose flour or stray pieces of dough on the board. Important to mention the backsplash and the lip do not have screw holes in them so there is no chance that flour or dough will get inside them as in some other pastry boards.
There is no need to discuss the quality of the board, it is hand made in the USA and if maintained correctly will last a long time. A couple of reviews on Amazon mentioned that the wood split after 2-6 months use, but most of them used water to clean the board instead of a damp cloth. Be smart how you clean and maintain your wooden pantry boards!
All in all, this is a top large wooden pastry board for the price (under $60) considering its quality and that it is made in the USA, it’s a good size for all pastry needs and has a warm look in your kitchen.
- Large wooden pastry board
- Excellent quality North American hardwood
- Has lip to prevent slipping
- Backslash to prevent mess
- Good looking
- Easy to clean
- Hard to use on both sides because of backslash
3. Catskill Craftsmen 16-Inch Medium Perfect Pastry Board
We decided to add a smaller wood pastry board to the list for the ones who do not have enough space in the kitchen or pantry for big pastry or cutting boards. The Catskill Craftsmen 16” pastry board is the right pick if you need a medium board for quick dough work.
As mentioned it is 16” x 16” x 0.8” size and weighs only 4.4 pounds so it is easily portable and stored. This wooden pastry board has markings for different size dough and also contains a simple plain pastry recipe. Its flat grain with an oiled finish so you do not need any additional maintenance work before the first use.
Just like other best wooden pastry boards Catskill board is made in the USA from non-endangered North American hardwoods, primarily from birch and hard rock maple. The company generates no waste, even uses sawdust for wood pallet fuel.
Catskill Craftsmen wooden pastry board is a great quality to price ratio board for bakers or chefs that occasionally work with dough or just do not have space for bigger boards.

4. Fox Run 3827 Marble Pastry Board
This elegant marble pastry board from Fox Run is perfect for any baker. Its smooth and cool surface is ideal for pastry, chocolate or candy making. Its perfect non-stick properties allow you to not use abundant amounts of flour before kneading or rolling.
We really like that instead of just using it or dough rolling you can use this as a marble cutting board also. 100% marble will not get damaged and can be used in unison for dough kneading and cutting.
The marble pastry board looks fabulous and can be kept on the counter as a part of the kitchen design. This Fox Run marble board comes in white and black colors for your preference. It is made from 100% marble with unique coloration and patterns.
Fox Run marble pastry board is 12” x 16” x ½” size and weighs 10.2 pounds. It also has non-slip rubber feet on the bottom to protect your countertop.
After reading multiple reviews we now see two reasons why customers are not fully satisfied with this elegant and smooth marble pastry board. First, a small but annoying problem is that the non-slip rubber feet are more like plastic feet that do not have a really good grip on the counter and might slip while rolling the dough.
Secondly, people who ordered the marble pastry board to incorporate it in their kitchen design were disappointed when they saw their board being more gray than white. Be aware, the pictures on the product page might be misleading and the board will likely be more grayish than white.
- 100% marble pastry board
- Cool surface amazing for sweets and pasta rolling
- Great looks
- Can be used as a pastry board and as a marble cutting board
- Has non-slip rubber feet
- Can choose white or black color
- Requires minimum flour
- Non-slip feet not very good and can slip sometimes
- Board not too big
- White color is more grayish than white
5. Sur La Table White Marble Pastry Board HK165-50, 16″ x 20″
Here we have another great marble pastry board which will help with your everyday pastries. Being made from marble this board is non-stick and does not require to add much flour before rolling. As expected each marble board has a unique pattern and coloration.
Sur La Table large marble pastry board is 16” x 20” x ¾” which makes it great for any kind of baking. Besides rolling pastry, you can use it as a marble cutting board since knives won’t damage the marble.
The marble pastry board has 4 non-slip rubber feet underneath for better grip on a slippery surface, however, we have seen in reviews people complain that the feet are more plastic than rubber and can slip on more slippery surfaces, same issue as Fox Run marble pastry board has.
The rubber feet issue or the lack of rubber feet is basically the only flaw in this board. Some people have received a broken board, which were quickly replaced by new ones. It is beautiful, in great size, good quality, and provides good customer service. Considering everything is excellent except the feet slip (pun intended) we award Sur La Table board as our best marble pastry board.
- Large marble pastry board
- 100% marble
- Non-slip rubber feet
- Minimum flour required
- Can be used as marble cutting board and pastry board
- Good looking
- Good customer service
- Non-stick rubber feet not good quality and can slip sometimes
6. RSVP International Marble Pastry Board, 18 x 18 Inch
This is one tough piece of marble! It weighs 27.7 pounds! The dimensions are 18” x 18” x ¾” so it is a really big pastry board and will fit all your baking or pasta rolling needs.
This large marble pastry board as other marble boards has plastic feet underneath to hold it from sliding. The reviews did not have many complaints about the feet sliding, whether its better quality feet or the big weight preventing the board to slide, it’s working and we like it.
Let’s move on to the negatives. Being made in Taiwan it seems that people encounter some quality issues. Most of them are small problems. People experienced some edges not very smooth, or not being round. Some people received wrong dimensions, having half an inch smaller board from one or another side.
Finally, most of the negative reviews were about packaging, some boxes were packaged poorly, mangled and the boards damaged or even broken. Having quite a big price point this should not be an issue people should deal with.
Going over positives and negatives this marble pastry board is quite controversial. The marble is good, the size is great and the weight lets it sit very firmly on the counter. But the quality of sizing and packaging with the lack of finishing touches for the price might put off more pedantic customers for sure.
- 100% marble
- Extra large marble pastry board
- Can use as a marble cutting board as well
- Non-slip rubber feet
- Great looking
- Very heavy
- Quite expensive
- Poor quality control from manufacturer/supplier

So which one to choose?
I hope you have already decided what pastry board or mat fits your needs, but if you didn’t let me quickly summarize what we have reviewed and what fits best for different needs. You cannot just pick one best board or a mat from this list, marble, wood and silicone are very different materials.
Marble board as a part of kitchen design
If you like the elegant look of the marble and want not only pastry equipment but also a piece of your kitchen design, don’t mind the heavy weight and size to store it, marble is the way to go. You can also do a lot of pastry recipes that involve working with butter on a cool marble slab (for more info about marble vs wood for working with cool pastry scroll down). If you are looking for these qualities then the Sur La Table White Marble Pastry Board is your choice, great quality, great looks, perfect size and awesome customer service for the price. The only negatives are the plastic feet that are not 100% non-slip, but almost all marble pastry boards have this problem.
If you feel marble is too cold and want something warmer or cozier but still firm you should go for a wood pastry board. Tableboard Co Reversible Cutting Board PBB1 offers you just that. It has a big hard maple surface for all your pastry. It stays perfectly still on your counter because of the lips on the bottom and you can use the other side as a cutting board as well. This hard maple pastry board price is a little steep, but the price is worth the quality and craftsmanship.
Cheap and requires little storage space
Finally, for people who do not have big storage space, do not want bulky boards laying around and do occasional baking or are starting out with working pastry, silicone pastry mat should be the choice. It is easy to store, does not require a big investment and lasts for years. Sili Bake Silicone Pastry Mat wins this category for sure, being priced under $20 for the 23” mat nothing beats it in terms of quality and customer service. We also think that the vast amount of measurements and liquid conversions table bumps it to the top.
Is a marble pastry board better than wood pastry board?
This question comes up in a number of discussions and many people have their own opinions. We did some research ourselves and found the answer that might help you as well. First, we have to address the part where people discuss the ‘feel’ when you roll the dough and how it does not stick to the marble vs wood, this is mostly personal opinion and there is no evidence if marble is better than wood, some people like the marble feel others like wood.
The colder the better?
A bigger discussion is when people say marble is colder and better to use so your dough stays chill. This is true only to some extent, it ‘feels’ colder because marble is a better conductor. Same temperature marble slab compared to a wood pastry board will just feel colder because it absorbs/transfers heat faster than wood.
In reverse, if the marble pastry slab and the wood board would be of higher temperature than your hands the marble slab would feel hotter than the wooden board.
Marble board or wooden board?
Let’s get back to the problem, what is better for the pastry? Well, first of all, it should be mentioned that both boards should be chilled before use for best results, use ice, freezer, snow and anything else you can think of (well you probably don’t need to go as far as snow…).
A chilled marble pastry board will transfer the heat from the pastry much faster than the wood board making the dough cooler faster and easier to work with, of course, the wood board will chill the dough too, just much slower than the marble slab. Remember the marble slab will get warmer faster too than the cold wooden board, in theory, we think that a chilled wooden pastry board would be better for dough that needs to be worked for a longer time like pasta dough.
In conclusion, neither of the boards are too much superior from the other. If you use the marble slab not chilled it is not going to give much of result actually if the dough is colder than the board it will make the dough warmer even faster than the wood board. But if you chill your marble slab before working your pastry, if it’s not huge amount of pastry or needs to be worked for long, it might be better because it will transfer the heat from dough faster than the wooden pastry board.
