After reading tens of reviews we now see two reason why customers are not fully satisfied with this elegant and smooth marble pastry board. First small but annoying problem is that the non-slip rubber feet are more like plastic feet that do not have a good grip on the counter and might slip while rolling the dough. The marble pastry board has 4 non-slip rubber feet underneath for better grip on slippery surface, however, we have seen in reviews people complain that the feet are more plastic than rubber and can slip on more slippery surfaces.
The rubber feet issue, or the lack of rubber feet is basically the only flaw in this board. Some people have received broken board, which were quickly replaced by new ones. It is beautiful, in great size, good quality, and provides good customer service. I think we can excuse the plastic feet, all along it is made in China..
This is a one tough piece of marble! It weighs 27.7 pounds! The dimensions are 18” x 18” x ¾” so it is really big and will fit all your bakery needs. Being so thick will ensure that the marble pastry board will work in your kitchen for years. The pastry board as other marble boards has plastic feet underneath to hold it from sliding. The reviews did not have many complaints about the feet sliding, weather its better quality feet or the big weight preventing the board to slide, it’s working and we like it.
Let’s move on to the negatives. Being made in Taiwan it seems that people encounter some quality issues. Most of them are small problems. People experienced some edges not so smooth, or not being round. Some people received not the right dimensions, having half inch smaller board from one or another side. Finally, most of the negative reviews were about packaging, some boxes were packaged poorly, mangled and the boards damaged or even broken. Is marble pastry board better than wood pastry board?
This question comes up in a number of discussion and many people have their own opinions. We did some research ourselves and found the answer that might help you as well. First we have to address the part where people discuss the ‘feel’ how you roll the dough and how it does not stick to the marble vs wood, this is mostly personal opinion and there are no evidence if marble is better than wood, some people like the marble feel others like wood.
The bigger discussion comes up when people say marble is colder and better to use so your dough stays chill. This is true only to some extent, it ‘feels’ colder because marble is a better conductor. Same temperature marble slab compared to wood board will just feel colder because it absorbing/transferring heat faster than wood. In reverse if the marble slab and wood board would be higher temperature than your hand the marble slab would feel hotter than wood board. Let’s get back to the problem, what is better for the pastry? Well first of all it should be mentioned that both boards should be chilled before use for best results, use ice, freezer, snow and anything else you can think of. With a chilled marble board it will transfer the heat from the pastry much faster than the wood board making the dough cooler faster and easier to work with, of course the wood board will chill the dough too, just much slower than the marble slab. Remember the marble slab will get warmer faster too than the cold wooden board, in theory we think that a chilled wooden pastry board would be better for dough that needs to be worked for longer time like pasta dough.
In conclusion, neither of the boards are too much superior from the other. If you use the marble slab not chilled it is not going to give much of result actually if the dough is colder than the board it will make the dough warmer even faster than the wood board. But if you chill your marble slab before working your pastry, if it’s not huge amount of pastry or needs to be worked for long, it might be better because it will transfer the heat from dough faster than the wooden pastry board.
