OXO Good Grips Convertible Foldaway Dish Rack Review

OXO Good Grips Convertible Foldaway Dish Rack, Stainless SteelEvery kitchen that does not have a dishwasher must have a dish rack. When I come to think, I have my dishwasher for many years but I use it very rarely, only when I have friends coming over or family meetings. I like to dry my dishes with a towel right after hand washing them, yes I am that old school.. However, when I am in a rush sometimes I just stack the dishes onto the OXO Good Grips Convertible Foldaway Dish Rack and let them dry while I’m trying not to get late to work.

This foldaway dish rack is of high quality, convertible, convenient and compact for every kitchen. Definitely worth my money! If you for some reason do not have any dish rack or just want to replace your old one I advise you to continue reading my OXO Good Grips Dish Rack review.

What can I put onto the dish rack?

OXO Good Grips Foldaway Dish Rack unlike other dish racks is very versatile and convenient. On the plate rack you can neatly put your plates or bowls in an upright position. The plate rack is safe even for your most precious china or other delicate dishware.

If you want to dry larger bowls or cookware you can fold the plate racks and you will have large space in the middle.

Cup racks obviously hold cups, mugs and glassware so you would not need put them on the counter and clean all the drippings.

I really like that OXO Good Grips Dish Rack has divided utensil holders that fit quite a number or utensils. The holders are also removable for easy unloading. I have no idea why the manufacturer does not mention this, but the utensil holders have drainage holes.

I remember having a dish rack 5 years ago with utensil holders that were not removable and had no holes for draining. Cleaning them was such a daunting task that I just stopped putting utensils in them and dropped them between plates or cups. OXO Good Grips utensil holders are a Gods sent gift compared to my old dish rack.

Versatility

This dish rack is superior to many other dish racks because of its versatility and convertibility.

The legs on the bottom fold out to elevate one side of the dish rack for easier draining.

As with many dish racks the water from the dishes drips on the bottom of the tray, but OXO Good Grips implemented a smart solution. They put a little spout that opens up for the water to drip out. What I do is unfold the legs and place the dish rack near my sink so the water from the dish drips out of the spout directly to the sink.

I usually leave my dish rack on the counter all the time, unless I am cleaning. But if people need to store it, this rack is great for its compact design. It’s side walls and legs fold and the spout closes for compact storing either standing horizontally or vertically.

Final thoughts and assessment

So is it all just butterflies and flowers? Is there anything bad to say about OXO Good Grips Foldaway Dish Rack?

The answer is Yes. A couple of small details. The spout for water drainage could have been engineered a little bit better. By better I mean it could have been a little closer to the bottom of the dish rack. When the dishes dry, even with the legs out and the rack tilted there is some water left that does not drain out, not much but still some water stays on the rack. For what it’s worth I haven’t seen a dish rack that drains a 100% of water. If you see one, let me know!

OXO Good Grips state that you should clean the rack once a month. What I do is just tilt the empty dish rack once or twice a week to get all the water out through the spout, if there is any left. And I clean it thoroughly every two weeks to avoid mildew and increase the longevity of the product.

The plastic it is made of is really sturdy and hard, not like the cheap plastic racks. No presence of mold or mildew been seen on any part of the rack.

I have been using OXO Good Grips Convertible Foldaway Dish Rack for a long time and love it. Love the material it’s made of, love how easy it is to clean it and store it. Its versatility allows to dry any utensils, dishware or cookware. Being price at around $40 I can sincerely say it is well worth it. The only thing what would make this product perfect is improved spout to drain all the water out. I confidently give this OXO Good Grips product a 9.5/10 rating.
