Best Indoor Yakitori Grills
Zojirushi EB-CC15 Indoor Electric Grill
Zojirushi is well known for their excellent quality products and the EB-CC15 indoor electric grill is not an exception. This grill comes at a higher price but it is a high-end product and is worth every penny and stands as the best indoor Yakitori grill for home on our list.
Zojirushi grill is made from high-quality materials and not only looks aesthetically pleasing but is very stern and well built.
This indoor grill is great for Japanese barbecue parties because of the big 12.5 x 9.25-inch non-stick grilling surface that should allow to barbecue for at least 4 people at a time.
A powerful 1300 Watt heating element will allow you to easily control temperatures between 176°F to 410°F. This temperature great for Yakitori since Japanese barbecue does not need flaming hot temperatures.
We were really happy with Zojirushi indoor grill because of its engineering. The grill top and the drip tray come apart so you could clean it much easier. You can even put the drip tray into your dishwasher.
Additionally, a great safety feature is put in place so that if you forget to put the drip tray back to its place or put the grill top improperly the grill will not turn on.
Overall, a great high-end product from high-quality material, that is safe, easy to use and clean and also looks very good.
George Foreman 15-Serving Indoor/Outdoor Electric Grill
George Foreman is a very well established brand known for its high-quality products so to no one’s surprise our list has George Foreman electric grill.
This large 240 square inches grilling surface will be able to grill food for your family or even a party. We think it is a little ambitious to say it will cook 15 servings (as mentioned by manufacturers) at a time but grilling yakitori for 6-8 people should be no problem for this grill.
The big grilling surface is covered in a non-stick coating that is very durable, requires no oil or butter to allow for easy clean up after you finish your Japanese barbecue.
This grill can be used outdoor as well as indoor since it is powered by an electric heating element so no propane or charcoal is needed. Additionally, there is a drip tray that you fill with water that instantly cools the dripping fat and produces very little smoke.
There is an adjustable temperature control that has 5 heat settings for different meats or sides.
Another great advantage of this grill is that it has an adjustable stand. You can use the grill on your table or stovetop but also stand it in a balcony if you want to Yakitori outside in your garden or balcony.
Overall, very versatile high-quality grill that can be used inside and outside, perfect for Yakitori party with more people.
Smart & Healthy XL Indoor Electric Grill EGL
If you plan on doing a yakitori party for your friends or family go for the rectangle grill, if it is just you and your loved ones then the round grill should be plenty. Additionally, the round grill is much cheaper and probably has the best quality-to-price ratio on our list.
The grill surface is non-stick for easy cleaning and unlike many other electric grills, these grills have a lid if you need one. For both size grills, you can put the drip trays in the dishwasher, if you opt to go for the rectangular one you will be able to put the whole grill (minus the heating element) into the dishwasher for super easy cleanup.
The easy to use thermostat handle will allow you to adjust the heat from 200F to 450F degrees.
We really like these grills manufactured by Maxi-Matic since they offer different sizes, have a lid, are easy to clean (especially the rectangular grill if it can fit in your dishwasher), heat up fast and are smokeless (just don’t forget to fill your drip tray with water) for a convenient Yakitori inside.
Chefman Electric Smokeless Indoor Grill
Here we have another very nice looking indoor grill from Chefman. This electric barbecue grill is great for Japanese grilling and more because of the big 9 x 13.5-inch grilling surface that has three different heat zones for various products and heat preferences.
The left side is Low heat zone great for fish, shrimp, and vegetables, the middle is high heat zone excellent for chicken, steak, and pork chops, while the right size is the medium zone for burgers, kabobs, hot dogs.
For Japanese barbecue, we would advise using the medium heat zone since Yakitori usually has thin slices of meat which do not require high temperatures.
Chefman Electric Grill has been built very well with an adjustable temperature control knob that allows cooking temperatures varying from warming to searing.
This electric grill wouldn’t be a great indoor grill for Yakitori party if it wouldn’t be smokeless. Just like all smokeless indoor barbecue grills, it has a drip tray underneath the grill that needs to be filled with water to cool the drippings.
Chefman electric grill is really easy to clean since the grill surface is non-stick and also can be washed in the dishwasher along with the drip tray.
Finally, this grill also has safety features like overheat auto shut-off, handles that don’t get hot, and also a 1-year hassle free warranty from Chefman if anything breaks.
All in all, a great grill because it can be used not only for Yakitori grilling but anything you or your party desires. Very easy to use, wash, and has a warranty. Definitely a steal for the price it’s sold.
Philips Smoke-less Indoor BBQ Grill
This innovative grill uses infrared technology to heat up instead of a heating element. The advanced infrared technology paired with special reflectors guide the heat evenly to the cooking grid and reaches 446F degrees temperature.
Having a non-stick surface the grill is easy to clean with wet towels or can be put into the dishwasher.
Despite heating the whole 7 x 12-inch grilling area evenly, we were disappointed that there are no temperature control options.
The infrared heating technology is designed so that the drip tray at the bottom would not heat and does not need water to cool the drippings. From experience, we feel this is the reason this grill lets out more smoke than the grills with water trays.
Even tho this grill has some shortcomings and is on the expensive side, it is a very high-quality product that has a perfect cooking temperature if you are looking for a Yakitori grill for your home.
Best Outdoor Yakitori Grills
Party Griller 32” Stainless Steel Charcoal Grill
Party Griller is an amazing big grill that is perfect for big families or parties and most importantly does not cost a fortune. It’s wonderful for Yakitori grilling since it is 8-inch wide and comes with 2 stainless steel mesh grates that cover the whole grill allowing to potentially fit 20-30 yakitori skewers at a time.
The heavy duty stainless steel grill dimensions are 32 x 8 x 7 inches (32 x 8 x 34 inches with stand) with rounded edges to prevent finger cuts. Being made of very thin stainless steel this grill is very portable and easy to store, however, it gets very hot so watch your fingers!
In order to control the heat and grill ventilation, there are easy to adjust vents on each side. The vents help a lot to circulate the air and avoid hot spots.
This Party Griller is perfect for Japanese barbecue or any other type of barbecue that uses skewers since it has mesh grates to fit a mountain of them and adjustable vents for heat control.
The grill comes pre-assembled with minimal assembling required and has a bonus of 2 stainless steel seasoning shakers for your favorite seasoning blends and 12-inch scissor bbq tongs.
In our opinion, this is the best outdoor Yakitori grill because it is great for big families or parties, is good quality, easy to use and setup, and does not cost a fortune.
Fox Outfitter Original Folding Charcoal BBQ Grill
This 13 x 13 x 8.5-inch assembled grill is perfect for any barbecue but we love its square shape which allows everybody to sit around it and manage their own skewers for their liking.
Easy folding design (13.5 x 7.25 x 2.25 inches when folded) makes this grill easy to store at any home and great for camping trips and picnics.
Made from premium grade stainless steel this grill is sturdy but also very easy to set up. The 12 x 12-inch grill grate fits Japanese barbecue skewers from all sides. The only negative thing we can say about this grill is that the grate does not hold steady on the grill and moves around a little when you try to move or flip food.
Despite the moving grate, we really recommend this grill for small yakitori barbecue parties outside because of its wonderful price-to-quality ratio, compactness, and design to allow multiple people grilling at the same time.
Weber 741001 Original Kettle 22-Inch Charcoal Grill
Any outdoor bbq grill list would not be complete without at least one Weber grill. We picked Weber 22-inch Original Kettler charcoal grill to be on our list because it is a high-quality product, easy to use and should last you years (10-year limited warranty) of Yakitori grilling.
Weber grill is 22 x 25 x 38.5 inches in size and can withstand and hold heat very well due to the porcelain-enameled lid and bowl.
This outdoor grill by Weber has good quality and excellent design. The grill has heat control vent, glass-reinforced nylon handles with heat shield, moving wheels, and aluminum ash catcher with one-touch ash and charcoal cleaning system. Everything to make your grilling experience hassle-free.
This grill is great for Japanese barbecue as well as any other barbecue you would like since it can reach high temperatures with the help of the lid. Perfect outdoor grill if you have space to store it.
Shuzhu Tabletop Grill
The grate throughout the whole grill should allow putting enough skewers for 3-5 people. Being compact and small you can put the grill on a tabletop if you want.
Shuzhu grill has double sided air intake to provide convection-like ventilation for faster cooking.
The Japanese made stainless steel grill is not only for people looking for a budget pick but also for people who don’t have much storage space and just want to enjoy a simple small Yakitori barbecue.
All in all, this grill is nothing fancy but does what it was meant to do – GRILL!
Iwatani Fired Burning (ABURIYA) CB-ABR-1
We decided to add Iwatani CB-ABR-1 grill to our outdoor Yakitori grills list since not everyone wants to deal with charcoal. Iwatani uses butane gas cassettes to heat up the grill. This makes it easy and fast to set up and start grilling within minutes.
Even tho the grill has a drip pan that you fill with water to reduce smoke we still class it as an outdoor Yakitori grill since it produces more smoke than other smokeless grills. However, since it is not too big you can use it indoor under your exhaust hood.
This Japanese made barbecue grill can fit Yakitori for 2-3 people at a time and the butane gas cassette usually lasts for around 2-4 meals.
This is a great grill for a cozy barbecue mood with your loved one or close friends and a great alternative if you don’t want to deal with charcoal.
Perfect Japanese grill for your Japanese barbecue needs.
What is Yakitori Grilling?
Yakitori translated from Japanese is “grilled chicken” so if you ask for Yakitori in a Japanese restaurant or even more so in Japan, you will most likely get grilled chicken on a skewer.
Japanese barbecue has conquered the hearts of the whole world in the past decade because of the meals simplicity and amazing taste. Today Yakitori, especially outside of Japan, is more than just grilled chicken, it can be skewers of vegetables, fish, meats, or even a mix of everything.
Why is Yakitori so popular?
- It is very easy to make. Just cut your ingredients in small pieces and stick them on a skewer and prepare some soy sauce based sauce for dipping and glazing
- Can be prepared up to a day before grilling
- Does not require a lot of resources. All you need is some skewers, desired ingredients, sauces, and a grill
- Flexible finger food that can be used for parties, dinners, or official meetings.
What to consider before buying a Yakitori Grill?
When searching for a grill for Yakitori you need to take a couple things into consideration.
- Where will you be grilling? Inside or outside? Inside yakitori grills will be heated by electricity or gas, therefore, you will not have that tasty barbecue smell. However, grilling inside is one of the coziest and amazing experiences you can have with your close friends, especially in the cold season!
- How many people are you going to barbecue with? If it’s usually just 2-4 people then a small inside yakitori grill will be enough. If you have a big company then most likely you should think about getting an outdoor grill.
What is better Electric or Charcoal grill for Yakitori?
The answer to this question depends on Your needs.
A charcoal Japanese barbecue grill is best for people who:
- Want to grill outside
- Love charcoal aroma
- Are planning to barbecue for bigger than 6+ person parties
An electric Japanese barbecue grill is best for people who:
- Want a cozy and close atmosphere with closest people
- Want to grill inside
- Want to enjoy grilling during cold or bad weather
- Don’t have the time or desire to deal with charcoal
What Charcoal should you use for your Outside Yakitori Grill?
You can use any lump charcoal, briquettes or any other charcoal for your outside Yakitori grill. There are a lot of talks and interviews with high-end chefs how they suggest to use only Binchotan, which is white charcoal. The main argument for using Binchotan is that its high carbon oak charcoal is odorless and does not interfere with the natural flavors of your ingredients.
We personally don’t think the white charcoal is worth it unless you really want to take Yakitori to the next level at your home. In addition to that, many people do enjoy the charcoal smell that adds to the whole Japanese barbecue experience.
